The rehabilitation centre of the North Estonia Medical Centre is the largest centre providing complex medical rehabilitation in Northern Estonia.
Rehabilitation treatment involves the restoration or maintenance of functions disrupted by illness or trauma, or the adaptation to disability. The indication for rehabilitation is not an illness, but a physical or mental disorder resulting from illness or injury. They can manifest as movement, transition, balance, perception, memory, swallowing, speech, or other disorders.
Due to the diversity of disorders, specialists in various rehabilitation-related specialities are involved in the treatment process, who provide complex medical treatment for a patient in need of rehabilitation treatment. The rehabilitation process takes place on the principle of teamwork. The rehabilitation centre employs rehabilitation doctors, psychologists, physiotherapists, lymph therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, nurses, and a social worker.
The centre is also an internship base for physiotherapy and occupational therapy students.
The centre is located in two medical campuses of the medical centre. Outpatient rehabilitation is provided at the Mustamäe medical campus (19 J. Sütiste tee) and both outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation services are provided in the Sõle medical campus (16 Sõle Street). The rehabilitation centre is a partner of the Social Insurance Board and the Unemployment Insurance Fund in the field of social and occupational rehabilitation.
