Video appointment

If you agreed with your doctor at your last appointment that your next (follow-up) appointment would take place via video link, you do not need to come to the doctor’s office for the appointment.

Requirements for video appointment

  • You are registered for an appointment, which you can view on the national Health Portal (www.terviseportaal.ee) under the heading ‘Appointments and Referrals’. The booking for the video appointment also includes a web link to the video appointment, which you can use to join the appointment.

  • You have a device with an Internet connection (a desktop or laptop computer) that allows you to use the following features: audio, camera, and microphone.
  • You are using one of the following web browsers: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge. Connecting to the call via other web browsers or devices (mobile phones, etc.) may not be possible.

When participating in a video appointment, please bear in mind that it is just like a normal appointment, which you should attend alone – without colleagues or other people who are not involved in your healthcare.

  • Use the Incognito/InPrivate mode in your web browser when accessing the website.

  • Please note! Do not sign in to Microsoft Teams with your work account.
  • Choose a safe place for the video call where there are no strangers present.

Starting the video appointment on the day of the appointment

To access your video appointment, please log in to the national Health Portal at www.terviseportaal.ee and go to the ‘Appointments and Referrals’ section, where you can view your appointments and bookings. Open your video appointment booking and copy the URL address to it, which can be found in the ‘Office’ field, and paste it into a web browser running in Incognito/InPrivate mode.

In the Microsoft Teams window that opens, make sure you have given your web browser the permission to use your camera and microphone by clicking the ‘Allow’ button. If your web browser is set to Estonian, the following screen will be displayed:

If your web browser is set to English, click the button labelled ‘Allow’ in the same place.

Before joining the video call, enter your first and last name in the ‘Microsoft Teams meeting’ field and click the ‘Join now’ button. If necessary, you can adjust the camera and microphone settings.

Once you have selected ‘Join now’, the doctor will see that you have entered the ‘waiting room’. They will then start a video appointment with you as soon as they are available.

If the video call is unsuccessful, please wait – the doctor will call the phone number that you previously provided to the North Estonia Medical Centre.

Conversation with your doctor during the video call

If you are having problems with your Internet connection or if the doctor asks for further details about your condition, you can also use the chat window to type during the consultation. To open the chat window, please click on the ‘View chat’ icon.

You can close the chat window by clicking the cross in the top right-hand corner.

To send a message, please press either the Enter key or the arrow symbol.

Once you have closed the chat window, you can reopen it without losing the existing chat.

Ending the video call

To end the call, click on the red button ‘End call’.

If you ended the call accidentally, you can reconnect (‘My things’ → ‘Starting a video call’) during the time of the appointment. The call will also end if you close your web browser or shut down your computer, or if your computer goes into sleep mode. If the computer is locked, the call will continue. If the Internet connection is lost, the system will automatically attempt to re-establish the call.
